More than ever in these times of environmental and energy concerns, they are so wonderful to preserve the cool in summer and warmth in winter. Also excellent for home security. Nothing looks more charming on the exterior of a home than authentic, functioning shutters that are the correct proportion to actually cover the window. How often have you seen a typical American suburban home with a living room picture window flanked by mean, tiny shutters that wouldn't even cover 10% of the total surface?How long will it take North Americans to clue in to this simple feature that has been used for centuries in so many European homes from the poorest to the grandest?
